Review of 881

We have been coped up in our little home since the birth of our little girl and it is the first time we went out for a movies in two months. After hearing rave reviews on the show, we decided to support some local production.

A little Synopsis before I give you my take of the movie.

Two girls, one dream. Little Papaya and Big Papaya grow up idolizing Chen Jin Lang, the King of Hokkien Getai, and dream of becoming Getai singers themselves. Their heart wrenching story is related by their introspective but highly sensitive friend and driver, Guan Yin. Coached by their seamstress Ling Yi (Aunt Ling), the Papaya sisters struggle at first because they have no “feel” in their voices. There begins the journey for them to reach getai stardom and along the way they had their confrontation with about sister act the durian sisters.

That is basically what the show is about, now the movie looks like some cheap-stake pre-seventies production with lousy special effects and a pretty lame story line if you ask me. The movie seem to be piece together to accommodate some of the numbers actors rather than well thought through plot. It was only lifted with humor peppered in here and there.

The only saving grace to the show was the Auntie Ling, she was more than worth her weight in the the movie. Her performance is is what keep the movie alive. Let's face it the introduce of the cloy sisters to posh up the movie have little but add the bimbo factor.

Auntie Ling antics and polished hokkien is the highlight of the show, even when little papaya was tell big payaya that she looks ghostly and the hell gates have forgotten her, it did sound the same as when auntie ling said in hokkien.

holy, innocent, virgin reads HIV

As for the plot, it is more slapstick then serious, enjoy the show for a few laughs, however if you think it is a classic, perhaps only the special effects can be classified as classic, this makes the original star wars more retro. The producer has forgotten how much special effects has progress over the years.

However, I must say the song are very catchy as I had heard them or even sang it before. To really enjoy, you should go to a real getai. The show just don't match up.

There was the big fight scene, where the papaya and durians use their special power against each other, I thought that was down right hilarious, reminds me a the 60 fighting movie in color.
Overall it is pleasant show for a few laughs and you must understand hokkien. My rating for the show is 2 1/2 over 5 and 2 goes to auntie ling as time and time again she lifted the show went the plot was going down. How did the media con so many people to watch the show. Beats the hell out of me. Perhaps it is the lunar seven month and the show about getai is related to the month.

Thanks for the great service.

I had a frustration day as it was the second time I tried to register my daughter's birth as the previous time the system was down @ GEH. Let you in on the some background why we chose to go to GEH to complete the birth certificate even though our daughter was born in Thomson Medical Centre. You see we wanted to get the perfect birth certificate for our daughter. As such we want her Chinese name to be printed instead of handwritten or pasted on. Apparently, only GEH has that system and according to the ICA hotline, the upgrade is still not able to perform the task that we want.

So what actually happened?

Today I rushed home to pick up my wife to proceed to GEH as the registration counter closes at 4pm. We reached there at about 3.00pm and was at the counter at 3 40pm. The staff attending to us was looking at her watch, as if to indicate to my wife that the counter was about to close already. After some fuss she did service us, however the attitude was not very willing.

After some time, she came back to inform us they were not able to process our request due to the lack of the hospital on the live-birth form. (On retrospect, we were making things difficult as we were frustrated.) She chose not to service us and got someone else to face us and I thought this was very unprofessional. So there was some verbal volleys to and fro, and they called up TMC to verify the case and tried to push the blame to them.

Since the ICA representative there confirmed that with the upgrade of the ICA system, the Chinese name can be printed on birth certificate, we left for TMC to get the chop. While in the car, we were fuming and the frustration built up. We blamed TMC for all the trouble. E

After arrival at the Medical Centre, I dropped my wife off and went to wait at the side of the hospital. Well, I don't know much about what happened when my wife spoke to the staff. However, the Assistant Director of Nursing walked all the way up the slope where my car was parked and apologized for the mistake on behalf of the nurse who dealt with our papers.

Now this is a simple gesture, however it really touched my heart. Imagine the staff made all that effort even though my wife had already accepted her apology and she insisted that she personally come to apologize to me.

Thanks Ms Helen Mah, Assistant Director of Nursing of TMC, you really made my day. You are an Angel.

Stop whining Glenn

VS

I have not been listening to Class 95 Morning Express for sometime and by chance I heard it this morning, and I just have one thing to say. Grow up, Glenn!

Glenn was whining non-stop that now Thierry Henry has left Arsenal, they would start winning the titles like the Emirates Cup. This ain't no major title, and they are playing at homeground, so what is there to shout about?

I am no Arsenal fan but I do admire Thierry Henry. He is the man who single handedly demolished my beloved Everton. It is his inspiration that led Arsenal to two titles and 3 FA cups (I am not sure of the facts, correct me if I am wrong.) For someone who had helped Arsenal so much, I think he deserves a little of respect from this so-called Gunners fan (who once claimed he was an Everton fan) I wonder how long he would remain true to the Gunners. As long as he remained true to his ex wife, perhaps?

Admit it, Henry would be a great loss to any team. His pace, his eye for goals and inspiration are priceless. I think how this "fan" belittled this once beloved Captain is uncalled for.

To Glenn, don't whine in the air. You can do it to Mrs Ong in the bedroom. Since you are so sure that Arsenal would win without Henry, why don't you eat your jersey if they don't?

A Father's Pride

As we are prepare to enjoy dinner treat from my sister, However that was not meant to be, My princess finally decided that it was time to come out after a 38 weeks wait. Giving my wife labour pains and this father is just waiting for signs of water bag burst. Since there was no water in sight, this father simply thought it was a false alarm. That was until our doctor asked us to meet him at the hospital. Suddenly my mental frame changed from calm to lost. I was not even sure how I managed to get to the hospital, but we got there fine. It was only that it hit me, I was finally going to be a father.

However my little princess would only come on her own terms. My wife started pushing on 9 July, but being the head-strong girl that she was, she decide that she would only come out on 10 July 2007 at 0001. Happy Birthday princess. This is the final moments of my thought before she was born and to my little princess I love her.

The room was calm,
But doubt cloud my mind,
Holding her hands,
I could hardly gasp.

The moment of truth,
I could not bear,
The final push,
I could hardly care.

The shrilling scream,
Breaks the silent air,
The feeling of lost,
No one could ever know.

There she is my only heir,
Touching her skin,
My sense was fair,
Delight at last,
When she was there.

Do you know the new wonders of the world?

Well we all know it is time to update the wonder of the world as the former wonders only the pyramid of Egypt is left stand. In the effort to the consensus of the world, the biggest online voting was held to voter for the new seven wonders of the world. Seven “new” wonders of the world — selected by nearly 100 million voters online and over the telephone.

The winners are ... CHICHEN ITZA (MEXICO), COLISEUM (ITALY),STATUE OF CHRIST THE REDEEMER (BRAZIL), PETRA (JORDAN), MACHU PICCHU (PERU), GREAT WALL (CHINA), TAJ MAHAL (INDIA)

Now what happened is that the Pyramid of Egypt was surprising left out of the list, as it is after all the only wonder that is left standing from the ancient list. However is this just like American idol, it is a popular contest. With population of billions how can you expect the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall to be left out.

My only disappointment is that Angkor Wat is
not on the list, do you know that Angkor is almost the size of New York? This is ancient time is unbelievable. Too bad not all thought this is a magnificent feat to rival Chichen Itza, Coliseum, Statue of Christ the redeemer, Petra , MACHU Picchu, Great Wall , Taj Mahal.

Would people start taking notice of Earth's woes

Earth day, on 07 07 07.

Live Earth is the name for a series of multi-venue concerts of pop and rock music featuring various artists. The concerts aimed to raise awareness about man-caused climate change and to encourage people to live greener lives, all the while accepting the need to contribute to a global carbon tax. The concerts have the intent of bringing together more than 150 of the world's most popular music acts and drawing an estimated worldwide audience of 2 billion people, making it one of the largest global events in history. This year, MSN did a live streaming to give online audience something to rave about.

A landmark audience of viewers from around the world has united at www.LiveEarth.MSN.com to experience the excitement of today’s Live Earth concerts and to confront the threat of global warming. As of 3:00 p.m. EDT, MSN had received a total of more than 10 million video streams and has the most simultaneous viewers of any online concert ever.

The purpose of Live Earth is to raised the awareness of audience world wide on the woes of the Earth. However, does it really achieved that target. I really hope that some day my child would be able to really see this green earth, I am support the cause, I am just not sure how effective the message been brought across. With this live earth, what are the changes to make the world better?
